Free VMware VCA Certifications!

This is intended to get posted on my blog, but I wanted to share this with those I work with as well who may not know about my blog.

VMware has recently announced some new entry level certifications – the VMware Certified Associate. Unlike most of the other certifications, these do not have a pre-requisite of training to obtain the VCP (VMware Certified Professional), nor have the VCP as a pre-requisite. This means that anyone is able to obtain these certifications and show a reasonable level of knowledge.

A few other blog posts from other vExperts will provide some background details:

Jason Boche went in and gave his review of the exam as well:

Normally, I wouldn’t share all of this, as I know we all have our own existing certification tracks and priorities. However, we have two time limited benefits here:

· VCA exams are 50% off for the rest of 2013

· VCA exams have a 50% off code for the rest of October.

Thus, it is possible to take this exam for FREE in October. Also worth noting that the exams can be taken ONLINE, from the comfort of your home.

So if you have the time, I’d recommend you do the following:

1) Go to http://www.vmware.com/training/ and login with your MyVMware account

If you don’t have a VMware account, you should get one. This is the account that will let you download such trial and free software as VMware Player, VMware Workstation and VMware ESXi Free.

2) Request “authorization” to be able to write the exam.

3) Go to www.pearsonvue.com and verify you have the received the authorization. Book your exam, which you can take up to 48 hours after you book the exam. Use the built in code for the 50% first discount, then enter the code(s) for the second 50% off.

4) Go to http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrreg/courses.cfm?ui=www_edu&a=det&id_course=189018 which will let you take the self-paced online 2.5 hour course.

5) Go back to www.pearsonvue.com and write your exam.

What’s the worst that can happen? You fail a $0 exam? Best case, you get your VCA-DCV and can demonstrate that you have a baseline knowledge of VMware Data Center Virtualization (vSphere) technologies.

If you’re interested, let me know, I can help you study or guide you through the process.
