ESXi 5 Install/Boot from USB

1) http://www.ivobeerens.nl/2011/09/17/create-a-bootable-vmware-esxi-5-usb-stick-in-windows-and-perform-a-scripted-installation/

2) This talks about how to use LiLi to create a bootable USB drive from the Linux ISO.  This is a good tool to know about anyway, for things like Dell’s Open Manage install CD’s that are Linux based, etc. – http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/download

3) You’re going to need PLOP as you don’t have an option of booting from USB at least in VMware Workstation – which was where I wanted to test this before I went down to the lab.  http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager/download.html

4) Create your VM.  Attach the ISO to the VM.  Adjust the BIOS settings if need be so that CDROM is above HDD in boot priority.

5) Boot to PLOP

6) Select the USB Thumb Drive, and boot.
